A Thief, Some Accessories, and a Book Cover Revealed

Albert, have you seen Lady B around?

<squawk!> She’s piddling. <squawk!>

You really shouldn’t say that so loud.

<squawk!> No volume control! <squawk!>

Um hm. Anyway, I wanted to tell her that my post today is going to be pretty brief because I have a book manuscript due to my editor in about five minutes—  Hey, wait, wow! I just noticed, you’re wearing a necklace.

<squawk!> My lady’s bracelet. <squawk!>

You filched a bracelet from Lady B’s jewelry box to wear to the ball today?

<squawk!> Prefer the term borrowed! <squawk!>

My glasses

I’ll bet you do. It looks great, though. The diamonds glimmer in your feathers really beautifully. You sure do know how to accessorize.

<squawk!> Naturally handsome! <squawk!>

I’ll give you that. But honestly, I’m a little jealous. I wear glasses because I need them, but I’m not an avid accessorizor. And it’s not because I don’t like accessories, you see. It’s because I’m not a talented accessorizor. I wrinkle scarves hopelessly and I always mismatch necklaces with bracelets. I’ve even been known to wear black belts with brown shoes.

<squawk!> Fashion travesty! <squawk!>

Can you blame Lady B for her preference in glove colors?

Which is why I usually try to keep it simple. For me simple is safe. I often just don a pair of loop earrings, though lately I’ve been wearing teal plastic bracelets too. But I’d love to be able to accessorize decoratively like Lady B does. I adore her peacock gloves.

<squawk!> Not that bird again! <squawk!>

Oh, sorry. Have a lobster patty. Anyway, it’s so fun that you’re wearing jewelry today because I’ve been thinking about how a great accessory can be really useful for drawing attention when attention is particularly desired. Especially a strategically placed accessory.

<squawk!> Fashion and function. <squawk!>

Actually, I wasn’t thinking fashion. Or function. I was thinking more along the lines of seduction.

<squawk!> Now you’re talking! <squawk!>

Since seduction is most assuredly on the minds of the hero and heroine of my next book, When a Scot Loves a Lady, I’m so excited to reveal today — right here for the first time — the gorgeous cover!

February 28, 2012

I can’t deny it, Albert: I adore that necklace.

<squawk!> It directs the attention! <squawk!>

It’s definitely directing a certain Scottish lord’s attention. I love the gown too.

<squawk!> The Scot would prefer it gone! <squawk!>

That he would. But that, dear Albert, is a story for another day. February 28, 2012, to be precise. In the meantime, I’m glad I had the chance to chat accessories with you today. You really should wear jewels more often.

<squawk!> Rubies tomorrow. <squawk!>

In honor of my heroine’s necklace! Thanks, Albert. You’re a darling.

But what about our guests? Ladies and gentlemen, what is your favorite accessory to wear, and what do you usually wear with it? All accessories (including dukes, earls and other dashing gentlemen worn upon the arm) are admissible in the Ballroom.

Under albert, book covers, katharine

    The cover is absolutely gorgeous.

I have to say that I am pretty simple when it comes to accessories. I usually will wear a pair of pearl earrings that goes with everything. Also in the fall and winter, I love wearing scarves.

I don’t like wearing a lot of extra stuff . I am afraid that I will go overboard, so I go along with the saying that less is more.

Thank you, Ora. :) Pearls are so beautiful and elegant. I suspect your earrings suit everything. Two of my sisters gave me a pair of pearls for my 21st birthday and they’re my alternates to the silver hoops.

I like the way Albert thinks! The cover is mesmerising, by the way. :D But he would probably shun me — I have no care for the rules of accessorising. If I like it, I wear it! Since Melbourne is so good for winter wear, I tend to rotate scarves. And earrings. The more colourful the better, especially when in a sea of people wearing grey and dark tones.

LOL, Jen. Who knows, maybe Albert will show up wearing scarves and earrings and bracelets some day — all at once. He’s very colorful already, of course, so perhaps that’s why he began his foray into accessorizing modestly (if diamonds can be called modest!). But I do love wonderful scarves. I’ll bet you’re a breath of bright sunshine amidst the gray and dark. :)

    I love the cover Katharine-it’s lovely! :) I can’t wait to read Kitty’s story!

And good luck with your writing deadline-I’ll keep sending good thoughts and vibes your way.

As to the question at hand-I have a few accessories, but don’t tend to accessorize a lot either. Mostly because I never really got into the habit, so it doesn’t occur to me a lot of the time. Part of the problem is also that I am not a morning person, so when I wake up, I usually barely have enough time to get out the door, so there’s no time to figure out the perfect accessory, lol. But I have been wearing my K.I.S.S. and Teal bracelet all month, and will keep doing so even though September’s over! :) However, I will confess I have a fondness for my black Coach bag that I got at an outlet. I treated myself to a nice bag after passing the bar. After surviving law school, and passing the bar exam, I figured I deserved a treat!

Yay for passing the bar exam, Lisa! That definitely deserves a Coach bag. I’ve dreamed of having one of my very own. I do have a pretty good knock off that I sometimes take out on a Friday night (though it’s twenty years old). But I sure would like to have a real bona fide Coach bag. Sigh! Thanks for sending good vibes; my Welsh hero and his heroine appreciate it. :)

        Lisa

Well, to be fair, I got it at an outlet at a fraction of the cost, so it may not technically count as a Coach bag, but I still love it, lol. There is no way I’d ever be able to afford a full price bag! I bought it in black because it’d go with everything. The holidays are around the corner-this may be the perfect time to start dropping hints to Mr. Ashe! :)

It doesn’t matter if it came from a discount outlet. (It’s smarter!) I have a little Coach knockoff clutch that I’ve pretty much considered legit for the last twenty years. So if mine counts, yours definitely does, LOL!

    What a beautiful cover Katharine!

I’m downright envious of that necklace! ::swoons::

My favorite jewelry right now (besides my wedding/engagement rings) would have to be my antique spoon ring. It’s the top from the Wallace Grand Baroque pattern spoon. I was lucky enough to find it in ring form, after years of being in the auction business and wanting to have that hard to find pattern in a flatware set!

Accessory wise, I always have a loud color/pattern purse to go with any outfit, though lately my purple Coach purse has been my go to, since it fits everything I need…iPad, books, notebooks, etc etc etc.

Thank you, Rebecca! Isn’t that necklace fabulous? Your antique spoon ring sounds perfect! I really love interesting rings in particular, and yours sounds so wonderfully unique. And I’ll repeat my dream of having the perfect Coach bag. Purple — love it!

Susan, how romantic! I’m definitely of the mind that diamonds go with everything. I’m so glad you wear it instead of storing it away for only “special occasions”. Life is to be *lived* — especially with bling!

I’m so glad you like the cover. :)

I used to love to wear rings but, ihave my hands in so much dish water and dirty laundry it just not good to wear jewelry anymore. I never go anywhere to wear jewelry anymore(budget won’t allow it)But if I could have any accessory on my arm it would be Hugh Jackman on my left arm and Gerard Butler on my right arm:) I love your cover I will definitely put it on my to be read stack.

I have to tell you, I had Hugh Jackman in mind when I was writing CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD. I don’t really model my heroes or heroines on actors or models, but every so often when I was writing Alex Savege, Hugh just popped up in my imagination. With a cutlass in his hand, of course.

    Marquita Valentine

What a beautiful cover- I don’t which to look at first the necklace, the dress or the hero. ;) Cannot wait to buy it!

I love jewelry, but most of the time I forget to wear it. One of favorites though is a white gold and diamond wrap ring (I think that’s the right term) that my grandmother designed. It was passed down to me after I had my first child. Of course my husband added to it so that the ring actually wrapped around something :) )

      12:37 pm

Oh, that sounds lovely, Marquita. And heirlooms are so precious. My husband’s and my wedding bands were made from the gold of his grandparents’ bands. Their bands were too thin from years of marriage, so we had to remake them! But I love it that we have part of them with us in the symbols of our bond. How meaningful that you have your grandmother’s ring and that you dh gave it a companion! :)

    11:45 am

Katherine, your new cover is GORGEOUS! I would love to have that necklace! Red is my favorite color and that red is a gorgeous shade. Now that I know you were thinking of Hugh Jackman while writing, I’m sure that’s who I’ll see in my head while reading it – can’t wait til February – this red, a Hugh Jackman hero and Valentine’s Day, what a combo! I’m not a big accessorizer either as I tend to keep it simple but I never am without at least my white gold diamond encrusted wedding ring, my diamond studs in the second hole in each ear and a pair of earrings. The ring and the stud are always the same but the other pair of earrings varies with my mood. When I think about it, I may don a necklace -my favorite being little palm tree that reminds me of the beach. If I know I’m not going to be cooking or cleaning, like out to dinner or on vacation, I wear my engagement ring. I don’t wear it all the time because it’s an antique, one-of-kind, platinum filigree with a center diamond surrounded by ten smaller diamonds. It was specially made in Italy for my hubby’s grandmother as her engagement ring. I love it and would absolutely die if anything ever happened to it. : )

Amy, thanks! I’m so happy with this cover. :)

All your diamonds sound beautiful!!! I’m particularly fond of diamonds, I’ll admit. And I love it that you have “regulars” but switch some things around. Delightful.

Okay, so Hugh popped into my mind when I was writing another hero, Alex Savege in CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD. For WHEN A SCOT LOVES A LADY, I actually had another handsome man in mind. If you’re not already familiar with this popular romance model, allow me to introduce you to Nathan Kamp.

      http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ChaSTKhJI2A/S1nzNQuMV6I/AAAAAAAAAFQ/VVu1S-ZXTic/s400/karen-marie-moning-kiss-of-highlander.jpg

I’ll admit I occasionally glanced at this pic while writing my Scottish hero. It was… shall we say?… inspiring. This image is from Karen Marie Moning’s KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER cover. Nathan’s eyes aren’t quite right for my Scottish hero, so I like this photo in particular. And as coincidence has it, Nathan is actually the model on the cover of my CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD.

Oh Katherine, my bad! I thought you said that you had Hugh Jackman in mind while writing your Scottish hero … see what you’ve done? Now I have to re-read CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD! I love this picture … Nathan has a lovely, need to be kissed, mouth and it’s nice to know he’s the gorgeous model on CBARL. I love that cover anyway because it features my favorite shade of blue. : )

    Lucifer's Lady

Lovely book cover! I just adore the dress she’s wearing and the fact that he looks desperate to take it off!

In terms of accessories I have never really been on to wear much jewellery just don’t like the feel of it against my skin. Weird I know!

But I do love that winter is round the corner because it’s one of my favourite times for accessorising. Even though we are going through a mini-heatwave here in the UK I am preparing for the coming winter and today I treated myself to a beautiful 1920s style white cloche hat. I also love big woollen scarves, gloves in a variety of colours and beautiful winter boots!

Thanks, LL! Let me assure you, he is. ;)

I LOVE winter accessorizing! Your white cloche hat sounds divine. My biggest collection of accessories is definitely my winter hats. Fuzzy, chic, sporty, you name it… I’m sort of addicted to winter hats. And nearly as addicted to winter scarves. I’m glad to find a kindred spirit. :) Stay cool over there now, at least until the season turns!

Oh, me too, Sabrina. Sometimes I sit on the floor in front of my bookcase with all my “keepers” and take books out one by one just to revel in the covers. It’s so incredibly relaxing! Is that the silliest thing? But it’s true. I did this the other night for about thirty minutes, and by the time I put them all away and went back to work I felt like I’d had a mini-vacation. Nothing like gentle, tactile pleasures to sooth the soul. Oh, and all the gorgeous men and beautiful dresses on those covers don’t hurt, either. :)

    Oh, what a lovely cover!!!

LOL, Antonia. I do that too! I’ve even done that when I’m in the car and feel unsatisfied with the earrings I’ve chosen but I’ve already left home. I’ve ended up with some pretty great jewelry that way. :)

Thanks, Beebs. :) I like to wear jewelry on special occasions too, especially jewelry my mother used to wear to parties and fancy dinners with my dad when I was little. I remember being sprawled on the bed in her perfumed room while she would prepare for an evening out, watching her put her jewelry on and thinking how glamorous it all was. Over the years she’s given me some of that jewelry and every time I don a piece it takes me right back to happy memories. I hope your special evenings out are likewise full of joy. :)

Ladies, after a few weeks of overworking myself to the point of exhaustion, I’ve caught up on most of the posts!

As for my accessories… I have a hat. It’s dark, milk-chocolate colored bowler that goes with me everywhere. It’s a bit battered these days, but it helps make me stand out (I think). I tend to wear it with matching Boots, some brown slacks (or some rugged cargos that have also seen better days), and once I wore it with a kilt.

Welcome back, David. I hope you’re giving yourself a vacation now!

Your bowler sounds very distinguished, and I never mind a bit of batter; anything that looks loved makes me happy. What fun that you’ve worn a kilt! My Scottish hero tips his own hat to you.

That cover is gorgeous. I can see why you are pleased with it! As for me, I don’t wear many accessories….I guess really just my wedding ring. Hmmm….can I think of anything else….sunglasses? Those are a must. I can’t go out in the sun without them or else I’m basically blind.

Thank you, Linda! My wedding ring is one of my only accessories, too. (I don’t even know where my engagement ring is, it’s been so long since I’ve worn it!) Sunglasses are a must. Last year I even got my first pair of bona fide prescription sunglasses-as-accessory (as opposed to whatever was cheapest at Target). Now I’m so paranoid I’ll break them I’m afraid to take them out of the case. :)

These kids jewellery boxes can not be damaged quickly .It would be always considered by the kid as something more valuable than all her other possessions. Such boxes are available with music. It operates in such a manner that when a kid opens the jewel box the musical sound of the box would be played to excite her. Unlike girls the boys can not be presented with such jewellery boxes.Kids jewellery boxes usually come in attractive and eye catchy models .It can be made of shiny steel with gold coating or of wood with ethical wooden carvings on it..The size of these boxes also varies with its price..,:.
