Saturday Salon: Bad behavior
It’s a very lazy Saturday morning. Late night at a ball on the other side of town and I’ve only barely managed to drag myself out of bed. I know if Lady B were at home, she’d question my attending any sort of ball outside of Mayfair. However, she is not and so I’m admitting it. Actually, it was a secret ball. Full of intrigue and masks and all sorts of illicit goings on.
As some of you know, a few years ago I wrote a little book that took place at a naughty club. That was not so dissimilar to:
(By the way, what is up with all the Eyes Wide Shut scenes played backwards on YouTube?)
Of course, in some ways, I prefer this sort of masquerade:
I suppose with All Hallows Eve just around the corner, there is bound to be an increase in masked balls. However, this event was different, and…it included the reading of philosophical tracts written by its attendees. Not all of whom were male…
I assure you I was there merely as an observer. I would never, ever be seen at such a scandalous event… But might return again.
What about you? Is there any sort of special way you intend to celebrate the upcoming holiday? And what do you think Monty and Lady B are planning to do?

All Hallowed Eve is a sad time for my family. We generally don’t do anything. My father passed away at this time many years ago. So we don’t celebrate.
I don’t know what it is with holidays…

Sorry to hear that, Lady Susan. Holidays can be a bummer i they have sad associations.

Understood, Lady Susan. There are definitely certain dates that hold more of a sad significance for me.

As an adult, I consider Halloween as the holiday that you can wear ANYTHING you want to work day. At my last job, we were not allowed to wear jeans or sneakers, but we could wear flip flops – go figure. So, usually that was the day we were our jeans, sneakers and a sweatshirt. Customers said to us, you are not in costume and our reply was, yes, we were.
At my job now, I usually wear my Phillies jersey over my work short. Gotta to show the team pride, don’t you know.
I expect Monty to have plans for All Hallows Eve. I expect him to dress as a masked pirate and go to some Cyprian’s Ball. I know that outwardly she would be acting like she was appalled, but secretly she would like to go in costume just to see what those balls were like.

We may get a glimpse of what Lady B thinks of masked balls in my upcoming THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING WICKED. Just sayin’ …

Lol. Very nice. I don’t think I’ve actually worn a proper costume in years.
And Monty should definitely be a pirate. With an eye patch to cover his bruised eyes.

Nice videos, Sabrina. The second is definitely a better time! I find full-face masks scary rather than sexy, though obviously they make more efficient disguises. I love masquerades in romance – they give me the tingles every time. I wish I could say I was attending one this Halloween but I shall be tied to the new book until it’s finished.

Hi Sabrina,
I’m hoping Lady B and Monty are planning a masked ball – we may see the devilish side of Monty emerge. ; )
There was a time when Halloween was my favorite time of year – I’d decorate to the hilt, dress in costume and give out candy then after head off to a costume party unless like this Halloween is during the week then I got to celebrate twice because the adult always hold the party till Saturday. Since moving to the country and not getting any visitors – I don’t bother to decorate except my jack-o-lantern to ward off evil spirits, of course. As for parties – maybe the occasional one but most of the time, it just passes as a normal day. It’s a lot more fun when the kids are young. : )
